Mozart, Mozart, Mozart!

If there is anything everyone who has been to Salzburg will tell you it is that you will hear all about Mozart. It is his hometown. You can visit his birthplace and then the residence where he actually grew up. There were no cameras allowed inside and really nothing too interesting on the outside. The music was beautiful though and it was pretty educational. The most interesting thing we saw though was on our way to Mozart's Residence. It was a full blown marching protest with police escort. It was a bit scary, and we never did find out what it was all about with all the signs being in German and none of the locals willing to talk to us about it.
The best Mozart thing we did in Salzburg though was attend a concert. It was performed in a restaurant called Stiftskeller St. Peter and is next to the church of the same name, and claims to be the oldest restaurant in all of Europe. Charlemagne is said to have dined here in 803 AD.

Here are a few pics of the entrance and garden room.

We were a little nervous about the concert in spite of how highly it was recommended simply because of the picture on the cover of the brochure...

Wouldn't you be a little suspect? Anyway the lighting in the dining room was dim so my pictures didn't turn out as well as I would have liked so here is the official photo of our performers.

We were seated with two other English speaking couples. One from Canada and one from southern CA. We had some interesting conversations on politics and the stock market which we watched plummet for days while we were gone.

We really enjoyed the concert that came between courses of dinner. I enjoyed the dinner. Jeff thought it left much to be desired. He does like to have his food served to him so hot that it almost burns his tongue too, so what do you expect? This was our last night in Salzburg and it was a great way to top it off!
